Chartwell Construction & Demolition Waste Directory
In the early 1980s, a small entrepreneurial company named Environmental Information Limited (“EI”) began providing solid waste management professionals with a printed directory, the EI Environmental Services Directory, which included information on waste facilities in the United States.  Later, in the early 1990s, another small entrepreneurial firm began publishing a directory about municipal solid waste facilities. Hundreds of pages long, neither of these directories were individual desk top references that could not be used by concurrently by company staff at different locations.

Since acquiring the Chartwell Solid Waste Atlas & Directory service in 2005, The Envirobiz Group has created a new directory focused on needs of professions involved in the management of various types of nonhazardous waste common to building construction and demolition, including asbestos and contaminated soil.  The new directory, titled Chartwell Construction and Demolition Waste Directory contained information from both the EI Environmental Services Directory and Chartwell Solid Waste Atlas & Directory.

The online Chartwell Construction & Demolition Directory focuses on facilities that manage materials coming from demolition and construction sites, including those with site contamination like brownfields.  The basis for inclusion is that the facility accept one of the following types of wastes; asbestos, construction and demolition, and/or contaminated soil.  The directory includes both government and privately owned municipal solid waste facilities.  The diverse scope of facilities includes incinerators, demolition landfills, recycling plants, transfer stations, waste to energy (WTE) facilities, waste processing and other similar facilities. If a municipal solid waste facility accepts asbestos, construction and demolition wastes and/or contaminated soil, it is included in this directory. The information provided in this case, would be the same as provided in the Chartwell Municipal Solid Waste Directory.

The number of facilities in the Chartwell Construction and Demolition Waste Directory will change from time to time as new facilities are added to the directory and closed facilities are removed.  Correspondingly, the information on individual facilities in the Chartwell Construction & Demolition Waste Directory will also periodically change to reflect information obtained from our ongoing survey efforts. Consequently, unlike the past printed Chartwell Solid Waste Atlas & Directory that only reflect facilities at the time of printing, the Chartwell Construction & Demolition Waste Directory is a dynamic references source.

The Chartwell Construction & Demolition Waste Directory is simple to use; with the possible exception of the most novice internet users, minimal time is needed to get staff using the search function of this business tool.  The search results are organized so that it is easy to scroll through the search results.  The information on each facility is provided in an easy to understand standard layout. The demonstration below illustrates how a user can easily and quickly access specific information on a facility.

As demonstrated above, the Chartwell Construction and Demolition Waste Directory provide customers with the ability to quickly identify facilities matching their criteria and provide basic information about those facilities. Note that the selection criteria include a broad group of waste types. The Envirobiz Group, Inc. utilizes this same facility data on an ongoing basis for its various research surveys; consequently most of contact information (e.g. telephone numbers) has been updated if changed within the last twelve months.

Increasingly, various types of discards are being diverted from the municipal solid waste as well as construction and demolition management facilities. Among the types of waste being diverted are hazardous wastes, certain types of industrial wastes, and universal wastes. The EI Hazardous, Industrial, and Universal Waste Directory focus is specialized facilities that specialize in management of these types of wastes. Municipal Solid Waste management facilities are only included in the EI Hazardous, Industrial, and Universal Directory if they accept one or more of these types of wastes.
